The Frightened Parts Are Burning Away

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman

“You want to fast from something for Lent? Fast from your story."

-Cynthia Bourgeault

Peaceful, Centered + Connected

There is an aspect of myself that has been so conditioned by the fight or flight response as an operative mode of living that it is even afraid of what's good, peaceful, and calm because the latter is so foreign to my nervous system. Dysfunction can take root for so long that healthy function and the reality of safety become foreign and feel threatening. Lately, Love has been whispering, "It is safe. You don't have to run. You can sit here and let the frightened parts burn away."

Let me tell you what that's been like. It's been horrible and wonderful.

Horrible because as the Wisdom within rises and tells me to stay when I would have typically fled, pressure builds up in my body and becomes nearly unbearable. It finds its way to my head and pushes against my skull. It takes everything within me to stay present in the discomfort and not abandon the process altogether. I trust the Wisdom and recognize her. I breathe deeply through the sensations; the pressure liquifies into tears.

It's been wonderful because, on the other side, I feel a release - lighter, freer, and more settled in my knowing.

I can't lean to logic or reason why this is happening to me at this time. Perhaps the why of it is not any of my business, but I do feel compelled to write about it and share the experience with you.

Perhaps what the world needs most when it turns upside down is people willing to burn from the inside out.

May Wisdom rise.

With you on the journey.

Grace + Ease,

Tia

A New Way to See the Good News

A new way to see the Good News offers a short passage that may offer a fresh perspective or insight into the ancient collection of poems, letters, and stories known as the Bible.

"When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to the one who put all things in subjection under him, so that God may be all in all."

⎻ 1 Corinthians 15:28

A Breath Prayer

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman "I–I hardly know, sir, just at present–at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then." -Alice in Wonderland Peaceful, Centered + Connected I call it "The Agreement." It's this thing I said yes to when I began to sense an invitation to change what I was doing for a living and instead trust who I was becoming in life. It was the portal across a threshold into what the late Rev. Dr. Katie...

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything, is to succumb to violence. The frenzy of our activism neutralizes our work for peace. It destroys our own inner capacity for peace. It destroys the fruitfulness of our own work, because it kills the root of inner wisdom which makes work fruitful.” -Thomas Merton...

News + New Good Things from Tia Norman “Healed people create healed systems." -Hailey Mitsui Peaceful, Centered + Connected The past two months have taken me from mountaintops to marathon routes, conference rooms to moments of deep inner stillness. In March, I spent five days in silence at the Garrison Institute in New York, learning from Cynthia Bourgeault and David Frenette. I flew home just long enough to trade my winter layers for running shoes, then headed to Los Angeles and ran my first...
